The purpose of the paper is to compare some basic terms used in educational linguistics in Poland and in the
world. The terms are taken, on the one hand, from two books by T. Rittel: „Podstawy lingwistyki edukacyjnej.
Nabywanie i kształcenie języka” (1993) and „Metodologia lingwistyki edukacyjnej. Rozwój języka” (1994) - on the
other hand - from “Concise Encyclopedia of Educational Linguistics” edited by B. Spolsky (1999). In particular
“dialogicity” between these two approaches is shown as well as underlining differences between them. In
description of pupils’ language in Poland linguistics is considered as primary and education as secondary and
vice versa: education is primary and linguistics is secondary in discussing some issues in “Concise
Encyclopedia”.
