Pragmatics (Greek pragma - „activity”) is a field of linguistics in which language description is presented
against the background of human activity in general. In pragmatic approach language is one of tools used by man.
In linguoeducational approach, where relations between language and education are studied, pragmatics is
sometimes described both as a definite ability and as an important element of human communicational competence
that is directed to effective action and to realization of intentional purposes. Modem pragmatics analyzes
discourse and educational linguistics is especially interested in a special kind of discourse called educational
or didactic or pedagogical discourse. It is necessary to pay attention to pragmatic separateness of utterances
produced in the classroom both by students and teachers. Pragmatics has important position in modem linguistics.
It is interesting for educational linguistics if achievements of pragmatics are applied to modem educational
system for developing communicational, and as a consequence also pragmatic, competence should be the main purpose
of linguistic education which should focus on effectiveness of communication.
