dc.description.abstract | This article presents various spheres of scientific-didactic activity of Władysław Szyszkowski
in the period of the People’s Republic of Poland. The article outlines the political context,
which significantly limited the space of unrestrained development of literature didactics and
at the same time, the area of a scientist’s freedom. In this perspective, Professor Szyszkowski
is presented as a realist who took into consideration the contemporary circumstances of
Polish-philological education, but first of all as a scientist, who, without resigning from his
scientific beliefs, was willing to become familiar with other viewpoints and to confront them.
The article emphasizes Szyszkowski’s remarkable attitude, characterized by the ability to
notice and define important educational problems, searching for reliable scientific bases
to solve them, and wise criticism in the evaluation of the suggested solutions, i.e. avoiding
extreme opinions on certain viewpoints or making other issues open. | en_EN |
