dc.description.abstractStefan Żeromski is one of the creators, whose literary work includes a cultural project. The definition of culture for the writer includes the entirety of human creations, both material and spiritual. He took on the role of a cultural educator and culture animator, the main purpose he decided to achieve was creating a “whole man”, a “cultural man”. The main field of his work was literature. In his works he included vast fragments of regarding the most important social issues. Aside from that, he practiced journalism. One of the most important volumes of his is Snobbism and progress, where he created a comprehensive vision of a modern country. Żeromski took part also in a number of social initiatives such as creating various institutions of libraries, theatres, schools, a popular university, science courses. In his actions he targeted modernity, but he did not forget about tradition. In his understanding culture is supposed to teach passing values to others.en_EN
