In this article I present some of the most popular mobile museum applications – their content,
accessibility, and finally the possibility to use them in the educational process. In the public
opinion these applications are not yet seen as a form of education or useful fun, but rather
as a feature of mobile devices. Therefore, in their analysis, I focused on their potential for
cultural education. Many museum and educational applications can be attributed to fulfill
several important functions of education – developmental, educational, cognitive, expressive,
culture-creating and finally recreational and ludic. Mobility is therefore an important goal
of education nowadays, and the modern facilities can help to develop competencies that are
important from the perspective of cultural education, such as understanding the needs of
training and cultural development in the process of lifelong learning, valuing traditions and
cultural heritage.
