The aim of the paper is to find out how children from children’s homes integrate in a school environment. All the children from Warsaw children’s homes who started school in ’0’ form were considered in the investigation. The investigation was carried out in May and June 1988 in the eight classes of the schools the children attended. 188 children from ’0’ forms were considered in the investigation. The following methods were used: observation of the children’s homes and sociometric technique. The results obtained indicate that at the end of a school year there are fairly stable groups of children having formed friendships. Only exceptionally there are children not accepted by a peer group. Out of 31 children from children’s homes, only 7 were able to establish and maintain informal connections with children brought up in a family group. The remaining children from children’s homes were not accepted by the children having families. Their isolation in schools was strengthened by mutual choosing of partners by the children from homes among the inmates of the homes. The reasons of such a situation are going to be investigated.en_EN
