Abstract

The author presents sources and inspirations of his graphic output; on the one hand, indicating the process of chiselling out forms on a matrix, and on the other hand, forming consciously and unconsciously metaphoric meanings of figurative works. The artist emphasizes the role of literature and Podhale culture as well as behaviour and creations of children who are his main inspiration. Portrait, which is “the soul’s mirror” and not just imitation of facial features, is considered to be Jędrysiak’s main genre. According to him, such portraits are merely found in the output of few artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The author, referring to Ernst Gombrich, highlights the role of suggestion and imagination in art, which is extremely important in the area of art perception, consciously breaking away from illusoriness and probability of realistic conventions. The Netherlands, with its art, culture and geography is mentioned as another inspiration for Jędrysiak. He concludes his text with a comparison of his art to an endless story.
