Hubert Z. is a simpleton who has got only one dream – to be a rich man. The hero is apparently a mysterious person. The Comparison to Barbara Radziwillowna allows him to present himself as a Romantic unhappy lover, who recites Romantic poems of the 19th century. He is fascinated with the treasures brought to his pawnshop, which create a specific world order. It results in the mythologization and mythicization of the outer. Hubert tries to be a component of the reality, but he does not suit it. Maybe this is because Witkowski, saving his hero from outgrowing, uses the poetics of scandal an creates the ironic and a real person.
