Polish education is dominated by national literature. That is why children’s contact with literary classics, which are usually addressed to adults, requires specific didactic procedures. During the work with the description of an orchard from Sir Thaddeus three stages should be planned: 1. – preparation for reception, i.e. the development of a physical description that will be confronted with Mickiewicz’s description; 2. – text reading and analysis for elicitation of the artistic composition, artistic language usage, poet’s imagination which enables the reader to experience the fabulous fictitiousness of the depicted world (personifications, animations) together with the author, to notice his sense of humour. The third stage is text memorization and the use of the description skills acquired during the activity in child’s private letter.
