When thinking about the spatiality in Miron Białoszewski’s literary work, and poetry in
particular, we have to admit that it is almost impossible to imagine without the city. His
poems are strongly filled with urban space, and the status of civilian plays an important role
in forming the identity of the subject. The city in Białoszewski’s works, or maybe it is better
to say – cities, as the presented world includes not only Warsaw or New York, but some other
smaller and usually marginalized suburban spaces – still needs to be critically studied and
described. The main aim of this article is to investigate Białoszewski’s spatial imagery using
the method of close-reading.
