This article sketches out the specific character of teaching Polish culture and literature in Belarus, on the example of the literary works by Stanisław Wyspiański. Firstly, the general situation in the secondary and higher schools is presented, on the basis of an analysis of the employed curricula. Secondly, the author focuses on the curriculum of the Polish and Belarusian language and culture studies at the Janka Kupala State University in Grodno. She outlines the range of preliminary knowledge of the Belarusian students before they study the dramatic works by Wyspiański. The main focus of the author’s interest, which logically stems from the Polish literature syllabus, is Wyspiański’s play “The Wedding”. The author identifies the difficulties which Belarusian students encounter in reading and analysing the play, and suggests solutions to these problems.en_EN
