The article aims at showing how cultural differences can shape social interactions in the school class as a social
group and influence efficiency in educalion with regard to the methods used to motivate and evaluate students and
assess their performance. The analyses and suggestions formulatcd in the paper have been based on the research to
datę in culturally diversity in the content of the Self resulting in diverse level of individualism vs collectivism
and its cognitive, motivational and emotional consequences coupled with observations on how Polish school works.
The author gives a detailed description of her own research on the content of the Self among Polish students. In
conclusion she proposes measures which would help both students and teachers prepare themselves to manage cultural
differences they would face soon due to the growing intemationalization in education.
