The article is devoted to utilizing methods developed through design – both as a tool for
creating the process of education, as well as an element which facilitates teaching arts and
cultural heritage – based on ten-year experience of the “Treasure of Malopolska” competition
and the “Aqueduct – key competences in education” project.
Is designing the process of education on the basis of tools posited by prof. Andrzej Pawłowski,
the founder of the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków
possible? It seems that by all means it is; such activity, which corresponds with the new trend
of service design, has repeatedly proved to be successful during trainings for teachers as
part of “Treasures of Malopolska”, an educational competition in visual arts for lower and
upper secondary school students. The design of the process of education decidedly lays the
stress on the effect and the proposed change. However, central to such design as part of the
preparation of the above-mentioned training is emphasis put on the elements of visual arts -
understood as a means of reflecting upon and delving into the discussed subject matter, not
as mimetic reflection of the reality.
