Interpretation – especially in the spirit of hermeneutics, also the radical one, by Derrida –
becomes a form of unyielding resistance against all forms of political, ethnic, and religious
powers, or the dictate of popular and teleinformational culture. It fosters the development of
individual awareness and sensitivity. It teaches critical activity, a distance to various sociocultural
phenomena, and readiness to take up a dialogue with others.
In this context, the task of a teacher would be reduced, not to revealing all senses of the text,
but rather to demonstrating different reading strategies, opening the text, instead of closing
it in a leakproof container of sense. Understood in this way, interpretation teaches respect for
the other, and enables building a communicational community.
