The article is an attempt to identify the directions of research and activity in the work of a teacher who employs the works of visual art in the Polish language class. It presents the most important views on the analysis of a visual artwork; the author draws attention to the necessity of concerning the variety of teaching methods in the didactic process; she also points out the role of the dialogue (between the teacher and the pupils, and between the visual and textual works of art) in the discovery of the meanings of a literary text, and the role of the associated visual-artistic contexts. This dialogue requires the teacher of Polish to be highly conscious in the selection of the goals and methods of work.
