The presented monograph discusses a popular approach to the development of
the concept of parliamentary democratism in the Polish political culture since the
last quarter of the 19th century until the present day. It contains characteristics of
visions and projects concerning the system developed mainly by democratic circles,
which consistently formed and safeguarded the democratic-parliamentary model of
a political system. It presents both expectations and reflections of representatives of
political and academic arena, whose participation in the creation of the Polish statehood
ideology and the shaping of modern-day political and legal culture has not
been duly appreciated, as the said circles persistently expressed concern (oftentimes
independently of each other) as to whether the Polish State would be given a modern
political system, i.e. parliamentary democracy, as the best and the most reliable
path towards civilizational progress and advancement of Poland.
